making $$$ as a dog walker

Sure, I thought. Dog walker is the kind of job teenagers make a few bucks at here and there. But compare the hourly pay for taking care of pets to the hourly pay to taking care of children. It is similar (according to one source linked to below, $13-20 for 20 minutes, $17-27 for 30 minutes, and $26-37 for 60 minutes, $39-59 for overnight), and surely it is lower risk and lower effort. I am not suggesting we neglect our fine furry friends, of course. I am suggesting that the pets will be less whiny and needy and able to complain to their human “parents” that you did not cater to their every whim every second. And I am thinking that if you convince someone to let you walk their dog and they think you do a bad job, the worst they are likely to do is not hire you again.

Where there’s a market, someone will develop an app to connect buyers to sellers. And this is probably the smartest business idea of all – being the middle man. Anyway, two apps you can sign up for are Rover and Wag. So, you can potentially make some money with this, and it seems easier and lower risk to me than taking care of a child or older person, risking your life and vehicle as a delivery person, or taking in humans overnight through something like Airbnb.

it slices, it dices, it 3-D prints famous sculptures in the comfort of your home!

Now you can 3-D print famous works of art in the comfort of your own living room. Or garage, or basement, maybe. I don’t know exactly how it works but I am intrigued.

This reminds me of one of my guaranteed-successful innovative startup business ideas, which is a chain of 3D printed frozen yogurt shops. Imagine you walk in and there is a securely bolted down Ipad where you can choose from thousands of famous works of art, cartoon characters (some of whom are famous works of art?), etc. Within minutes, your selection is delivered to your table with your choice of sprinkles. Drop me a line if you want to invest.

bill negotiators

I just learned of two companies that will negotiate with your cable company on your behalf, in exchange for a share of the savings. Shrinkabill.com and BillFixers.com.

There should be a lot of business opportunities out there like this because we have so many subscriptions and bills now and they are so complex and screwed up. Beyond utilities, you have screwed up medical bills obviously. Shopping around for homeowners and car insurance periodically can really pay off. Then there are simple repairs and maintenance that can lower energy and water bills. Property tax assessments can sometimes be challenged successfully. Mortgage and other lending terms can be negotiated, and if companies are not willing to negotiate they can be refinanced or consolidated. And yet most of us are too busy to spend time doing all this. It wouldn’t make sense to take time off work to do it, and we don’t want to give up our limited family and leisure time. But if there are businesses out there who will do it for you and it puts a little money in both your pockets that wasn’t there before, it’s a win-win.
