About This Site
Hi, I’m Dwayne. I’ve been writing this blog since 2014 to explore the connections between human civilization and natural ecosystems, and predictions about the future of both.
Drawing on my background as an academic researcher and practicing engineer, I try to monitor and channel this story as it unfolds a little bit every day in scientific journals, books, newspaper articles, and blogs. I review these sources, apply my own analytical perspective, and share the results.
Join me as I range through the natural and social sciences, planning, engineering, technology, and economics — whether that means breaking down economic models, navigating the realities of environmental regulations and climate change research, or taking an occasional step back into history or sideways into some of my favorite science fiction authors like Vernor Vinge and Charlie Stross.

This is my personal blog. It does not represent the views of my employer, my university affiliations, or any other organization I might happen to be associated with. I speak my mind here, backed by evidence and logic. I make no promises that this blog will be apolitical, politically correct, or family-friendly. That said, it is never my intention to arbitrarily offend anyone. If you feel particularly offended by something I say, please tell me about it and I will listen to your point of view.
Hello Dwayne,
I am a Ph.D. student at University of South Australia.
My thesis subject is very relevant to the discussions that are developed in your book (Human Enterprise, Ecosystems, and the Future of Civilization). In brief, I want to quantify natural capital according to some existing global scenarios which are called Great Transition Scenarios. I use an integrated natural and human system as a theoretical framework which is introduced by ecological economists such as Herman Daly, Robert Costanza, and so on.
If you like, we can have more contribution in this area.
Hi Mahdi, thank you for the comment and I am more than happy to have a dialogue with you.
